Why Your Story Matters, and How Sharing It Glorifies God and Encourages Others
Have you ever wondered if your story really matters? If the things you’ve been through, the crazy, the miraculous, the painful, are worth sharing?
The answer is yes. And not just because your story is powerful (which it is), but because God has always used testimonies to reveal His goodness, build up His people, and minister to others to the point of salvation. But what does God say about testimonies?
Scripture is filled with testimonies—wild, redemptive, and real—that point back to the heart of a faithful God. And friend, yours is worth sharing too.
What Is a Testimony in the Bible?
The word “testimony” in Scripture often means a witness, a declaration, or a record of what God has done.
“Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will tell what He has done for my soul.” — Psalm 66:16 (ESV)
Whether it’s the psalmist declaring God’s deliverance, a healed man proclaiming mercy, or Paul sharing how Jesus turned his life upside-down, God invites His people to testify.
Your testimony is your “Jesus story.” It’s how His grace met you in a real place, at a real time, and did something only He could do.
Why Are Christian Testimonies So Important?
1. They Glorify God
When we tell the truth about what God has done, we make His name known.
“Jesus did not let him, but said, ‘Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.'” — Mark 5:19
The man Jesus healed from demonic possession didn’t get a theological education first. He just went and told his story, and people were amazed (Mark 5:20).
2. They Encourage Others
When we speak, others believe.
“Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, ‘He told me everything I ever did.’” — John 4:39
That woman at the well? Her past was messy. But Jesus met her anyway, and she ran to tell everyone. Her proclamation led an entire town to believe in Him.
3. They Help Us Remember
We need reminders of how far we’ve come and who brought us here.
“Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story—those he redeemed from the hand of the foe, those he gathered from the lands, from east and west, from north and south.”
— Psalm 107:2–3
When we testify, we don’t just encourage others; we also encourage ourselves. We rehearse God’s faithfulness to ourselves.
How to Share Your Testimony (Biblically and Simply)
You don’t need a pulpit or eloquent words. Just a willing heart.
Here’s a simple structure based on Paul’s testimony in Acts 26:
Before Christ – What was life like before you truly knew Him?
Meeting Christ – How did He meet you, save you, call you?
During Christ – What has changed? What is still being healed?
Personal Faith Stories in the Bible
Throughout Scripture, we see people boldly (and sometimes tearfully) sharing what God did for them:
The Blind Man (John 9): “He put mud on my eyes,” the man replied, “and I washed, and now I see.”
The Woman at the Well (John 4): Her whole village believed after she shared.
The Demoniac Set Free (Mark 5): Jesus sent him home with the words, “Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.”
David (Psalm 40:1–3): “He lifted me out of the slimy pit… Many will see and fear the Lord and put their trust in him.”
These weren’t perfect people. They were people who encountered God and shared the story.
Why Your Story Matters
If God has done anything in your life, big or small, instant or ongoing, you have a testimony.
“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.” — Revelation 12:11
Testimonies are spiritual weapons. Every time you say, “This is what Jesus did,” you’re declaring war on fear, doubt, and shame.
Even more? Your story might be the spark someone else needs to turn to Jesus.
Speak Up
You don’t have to shout from a stage. You don’t need to have all the answers. But there’s someone who needs your voice, your story of how Jesus showed up in your life.
So share it over coffee, in a post, in your journal, or right in the comments. Be the one who says, “Let me tell you what He did for my soul.”
Because when we testify, we don’t just remember His goodness, we reveal it.
If this post stirred something in you, if it reminded you of God’s faithfulness or gave you courage to speak, take a moment today to share your own Jesus story.
You can write it in a journal. Share it with a friend. Or simply leave a few lines in the comments below:
How has Jesus revised your life?
And if you feel led to share your story with a wider audience, we would be honored to host it. You can inquire about submitting your testimony to be featured on the blog by visiting aliferevised.com/guest-post.
Your voice could be the encouragement someone else needs today.
This is for both of us. I’m guessing you’re here because, like me, you’re believing God for healing. This post shares Bible verses for healing that I’ve been clinging to.
Personally, I’m believing God for healing from PCOS and the other health challenges that have come along with it, and it hasn’t been easy. So here we are, gathering together to load up our spiritual arsenal. But first, let’s take a moment to remember exactly who we’re dealing with and who we have on our side.
We have the God of the Universe, the One who formed us from dust. He ordered the parts, made the parts, and He can fix the parts. Let these Bible verses encourage you in times of need, and help build your faith and trust in Jesus and His ability to make you whole.
When I Ask God About Healing
When I come to the Lord about my healing, and wonder why complete and total healing hasn’t happened for me yet, I often think about the man who brought his son to Jesus in Mark chapter 9.
I know that I believe, but I also find myself asking God to “help my unbelief” — just like that father who sought deliverance for his son who was possessed by an evil spirit.
“‘If you can?’ said Jesus. ‘Everything is possible for one who believes.’
Immediately, the boy’s father exclaimed, ‘I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!’”
— Mark 9:23–24
Even when I feel like I have all the faith in the world and genuinely believe in God’s ability to heal me, I know there could still be some unbelief buried underneath. I have thoughts like, “I know He can… but will He do it?” I often wonder if that’s why I haven’t seen my breakthrough yet.
Or maybe God is waiting for me to grow in discipline. Maybe it’s simply the sovereignty of God and has nothing to do with unbelief at all — I think of the book of Job.
Honestly, I don’t know.
But just like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the book of Daniel — different circumstances, same heart — my attitude is this: Even if God doesn’t do it, I’m still trusting, leaning on, and depending on Jesus.
“If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”
– Daniel 3:17-18
Why I Turn to Bible Verses for Healing
Whatever the reason, while waiting on healing, the enemy tries to invade our minds with lies like: “This is just how it’s going to be for you. There’s nothing you can do. God doesn’t care.”
But those are lies — and I refuse to believe them. I choose to believe the Word of God and hold on to His promises.
A person dear to me told me about The Little Red Prayer Book. There’s a free PDF version available online. It includes a powerful section on healing, filled with scriptures, prayers, and declarations. (Here’s the link to the free download if you’d like to check it out.)
To be clear, I don’t know the creators of the book and have no association with them; I just found it helpful. I wouldn’t recommend replacing your personal prayer time with it, but it’s a great tool to help you pray Scripture over your life.
That said, here are the Bible verses for healing that I’m standing on in faith.
Bible Verses for Physical Healing
Isaiah 53:5 – By His stripes, we are healed
“But He was wounded for our transgressions,He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,And by His stripes we are healed.”
This verse reminds me that when Jesus died for our sins, He also suffered for our healing.
Jeremiah 30:17 – I will restore you to health
“For I will restore health to and heal you of your wounds,’ says the Lord,‘Because they called you an outcast saying:
“This is Zion;No one seeks her.‘”
Though spoken through Jeremiah to Israel, this verse reminds me of God’s heart to restore and heal His children. I hold onto it for myself, too.
Psalm 103:2–3 – He heals all your diseases
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
And forget not all His benefits:
Who forgives all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases,
Healing is one of the benefits we have as His children.
James 5:14–15 – The prayer offered in faith…
Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.
What stands out to me in this passage is the role of community, or as my pastor calls it, “one-anothering.” Praying in faith with others.
I’ll never forget a time in my twenties when I had a sudden fever and wasn’t feeling well. A few friends, all believers, were with me. We worshiped and prayed together for hours. When they prayed for me directly, my fever broke almost right away. I felt completely back to normal. It was so sudden, so real. I’ll never forget it.
Bible Verses for Emotional and Mental Healing
Psalm 34:18 – Close to the brokenhearted
The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart,
And saves such as have a contrite spirit.
Philippians 4:6–7 – Peace that passes understanding
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
2 Timothy 1:7 – Not a spirit of fear…
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
This is one of my favorite verses. My mom (who adopted me) taught it to me when I was little and struggling with night terrors. I clung to this verse then, and I still cling to it now.
Listen to “Sound Mind” by Bryan & Katie Torwalt, inspired by this verse:
Psalm 147:3 – He binds wounds
He heals the brokenhearted
And binds up their wounds.
Pray with Me
Father, in the name of Jesus, we thank you because you are the God who keeps your promises. We thank you because you see us where we are and know what we are going through. I pray that we would be closer to you than ever before, knowing more of your heart and experiencing more of your presence. I pray that you would increase our faith and help our unbelief, if there be any. We never want to doubt you. Help us to trust you more, for healing and wholeness. You are the Great Physician, the one who made us, and the one who can heal us. Help us to declare your word over our lives, so that we can walk in all that you have for us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
